Actor – Actors are basically self employed and get their work through agents. If you fancy doing acting work you will need to go to acting school and expect to work many other jobs while you build up your portfolio of work. Getting an agent is a main factor in becoming a professionally paid actor and many agents won’t even consider you unless you have a drama school background and some experience.

Stuntman – Stunt performers in the UK work through the British Stunt Register and are required to gain experience in 6 or more qualification to join. See my website for more details.

Extras/Background Artist – TV extras work is on a self employed basis. Anyone can join an extras agency and pick up work in local TV and or film productions. Working full time as an extra will require you to travel and extras don’t usually get travel expenses but are paid by the day. Most TV extras who I have met do it as a part time ‘extra income’, forgive the pun!

Unit Driver – Unit drivers work on a self employed basis and drive actors and crew members around. It’s long hours and there is plenty of sitting around. If you’re interested in TV work and like driving it might be for you!
