What are you doing to make your life better?

I once heard a really good question. I can’t remember whether it was through a course or in a book. It was this:

‘How good can your life get?’

And the interesting thing is .. how often do we ask ourselves this question?

If you could create the perfect life, how would it be each day?

‘What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?’

We are often obsessed with making life difficult for ourselves and almost ‘enjoy’ telling people how troublesome our lives are but how would it feel if you instead, were talking of how amazing things were? We can get so caught up in our complaining and ‘outdoing’ our friends troubles, that we forget that we can also make our lives better, and even amazing!

When we really think into our enjoyment of life, how can we create more of the things which we enjoy and spend less time worrying needlessly and paying attention to the things which annoy us or make our lives more difficult?

Are you making your life better with every passing week? Or are you simply stuck in an old method of thinking and re-enacting an old familiar pattern of behavior? Consciously creating a better future for yourself begins with what you pay attention to. As the old adage goes “We create what we think about” or “Thoughts become things”.

In one of Jack Canfield’s videos he talks about making a list of the things during our day to day activities which annoy us and consciously taking action to either eliminate them or make them less bothersome. This is one way of consciously making your life better. Often we can learn to live with things which we hate! We get so used to the ‘status quo’ as things are, we forget that we can affect change. By deliberately searching for these things and consciously changing them, for something more desirable, you are empowering yourself to be the deliberate creator of a better life for yourself.

We are creating mental ‘states’ all the time by our daily actions and these ‘states’ are either enjoyable or painful or somewhere in between. If we can control the events which create these states, which of course we can, we can build a more positive experience into our weekly activities. If we consciously pay attention to the things which please us, rather than those which displease us, we will automatically be creating more of this in our lives.

For many people one of the main bugbears in their lives is their job or place of work. If you don’t happen to be fortunate enough to enjoy your work this can be the place to start. Often though it isn’t necessarily the events of our lives which are the biggest problem – more it is our reaction to them. If you are stuck in a job which makes you miserable though that is little solace and the pain of having to get up every day to go there can become too much to bear.

If there is an event, person or happening which is causing you a lot of pain then that is the first port of call to take action on to improve the quality of your life. Think about what you can do to change the situation and what works for you. If there is a solution which would make you equally as miserable, discount it. Look only for solutions which take from the situation you are in and put you in a better mental environment. Don’t think only of financial matters but instead think of the environment in which you would thrive and be happy.

When you deliberately set out to change the things in your life which are problem areas, you begin to set into motion a ‘proactive mentality’ about your life which will filter into every area. A good place to start is by noticing your reactions through the day. How do you react most positively in your daily experiences? How do you react most negatively? Begin to see that you can change the environments which cause you distress and focus more instead of the positive aspects.

There is a great chapter in the book Ask and It Is Given by Ester and Jerry Hicks which is called the ‘Storm of Appreciation’ which helps you to focus your mind on the more positive aspects on your life. It’s a fabulous book and well worth a read if you haven’t seen it already.
