How to get out of a career you hate? Are you stuck in a career which isn’t working for you? Trapped by the money but hating every moment?
I was there, trapped by the golden handcuffs of a well paid job which kept me hanging on while time passed by.
It wasn’t that I hated my career exactly. But it wasn’t working for me. In my 20’s I had met a stunt performer and I decided that this was the best career ever! It took me four years before I qualified to join the UK stunt register and a further two years before I got any work!
At the time it seemed great but over the following years I grew disillusioned with the industry and with myself. I loved the work but I was more out of work than in it; so money was always a problem.
I took many other jobs in between work but nothing paid the same as the stunt work and I was mostly working low paid jobs in between. Each time a job finished I never knew when I would work again.
I was trapped by the golden handcuffs of the industry but didn’t know how to escape the perpetual cycle of it all and I never seemed to have any consistency in life. Work came up sporadically and I couldn’t hold down another job due to this pattern. It seemed like some kind of zen riddle!
How To Get Out Of A Career You Hate – The Burden Of Choice
It occurred to me that I did have a choice in all of this. I was choosing to leave other work and do the stunt work when it came up. I needed the income usually because I had built up debt by the time the phone stated ringing! If I could get out of debt without the stunt work it would solve my problem!
Despite the apparent freedom of work which was sporadic and fun at times, the lack of work and unpredictability of it came at a price. I was always broke, I never planned anything in case work came up and my relationships were a disaster! Trapped and frustrated, before long the work itself seemed like the problem.
I looked for an alternative on the internet since I had done some buying and selling on eBay over the years. Since I knew people were making income from the internet I thought this could offer me an escape from my situation.
How To Get Out Of A Career You Hate – Feeling Trapped
I had done some buying and selling on eBay over the years so thought this might help.
Just to keep the wolf from the door I picked up eBay again but soon realised it wasn’t going to be enough.
I tried several courses which claimed to teach me how to make money online. Some actually did but it was only short lived. There were always problems.
I eventually found an online course run by the two people who are now my personal mentors. Jay Kubassek and Stuart Ross founded a company called The SFM in 2010. I joined their program in 2014 and started learning from scratch.
How To Get Out Of A Career You Hate – Affiliate Marketing?
My quest for an online income led me to a business model known as affiliate marketing. Maybe this can help you too if you want to know how to get out of a career you hate.
Affiliate marketing is a business model which lets anyone sell other people’s products for a share of the profits. What struck me about affiliate marketing was the ability to sell things over the internet on complete autopilot.
Affiliate marketing is a scalable business model too. Once you have a working business model, selling products, you can sell them globally without having to trade your time for money.
How Does This Work?
Affiliate marketing can allow anyone to build an online business of their own, even from working only a few hours a day. Over time, using digital products and scalable strategy for marketing, they can replace their income with their online earnings.
You don’t need your own products and you don’t even need any technical skills to learn this strategy.
What’s Different About This?
The SFM is an all in one business system and education platform. It offers a different strategy to many affiliate products currently available.
It can allow anyone to build their own business system and get started learning marketing very quickly.
One of the main benefits of The SFM is the online business community where you can connect with others on the same journey. This was something which was never offered in all the other courses I took online.
Since joining the SFM I have been able to make my first high ticket sale online and develop a better understanding of what is involved in building an online business over the long term.
