Wondering how to build a business around your passion? Do you go for the money, or your passion? The best businesses are built around something you’re passionate about. If you’re passionate about something, you can sustain it for much, much longer. If you’re only in it for the money, it’s going to be much harder and you’re more likely to quit.
But how can you build a business around your passion? Can all passions be monetised or are there some unique interests which will never make any money?
Start With Your “Why?”
If you haven’t read “Start With Why” by Simon Sinek, get a copy. It’s a great read and Simon explains how the most successful enterprises didn’t start with intentions of fame or money.
They started with a reason which was bigger than all of that! Bill Gates started Microsoft with a purpose to create a home computer which was affordable for everyone to have. Henry Ford had the intention of building a production car which was affordable for the common person.
It was widely reported that a famous quote from Steve Jobs in the 1980’s was the Apple company mission statement:
“Man is the creator of change in this world. As such, he should be above systems and structures, and not subordinate to them.”
James Dyson would never have created over 5,000 prototypes of his first vacuum cleaner (the G-Force) and gone through numerous rejections by UK manufacturers, unless he had a solid belief in what he was doing.
So, start with a “why” first and you’ll summon a greater strength for the duration of your business. If your passion and your purpose are in alignment, nothing can stop you from achieving something, if you want to. If you’re attempting something on a whim, and your heart isn’t really in it, you’ll most likely give up too soon!
The Internet – How To Build A Business Around Your Passion
Yes, the internet! The internet offers more opportunity now than was possible for years before. With the internet, anyone can start up their own business and build on their passions and interests to generate an income by providing value to others in some way.

Maybe you’re not passionate about that though! What are you passionate about? I found a few careers I was passionate about including working as a stunt performer, teaching the martial arts and learning how to earn money online. For me, it was the process and learning of how to build an online business which I was passionate about.
If you can figure out a way to follow your passion and tie it in with an online business which can help people in greater numbers, you’ve got a purpose aligned with your passion.
Finding Your Passion
Not everyone is passionate about something, but if you have an interest in something that’s a start. By creating content on the internet, either through a blog, a video or by some other means, you can attract people who share your interests from all over the world. A friend of mine has a passion for travel and creates blogs and websites which help fellow travellers. My interest is in affiliate marketing and self development, so my blog attracts people in those areas.
