Beginners Guide To Search Engine Optimization

Here’s a short beginners guide to search engine optimization or SEO. SEO is basically a means to optimize your website for the best keywords which fit with your particular business. SEO is a huge topic and getting your site to the top of Google for your main keywords may or may not be a possibility. It really depends on your business, your main keywords and your competition on Google.

Let’s say for example your business is forex trading advice. To rank your site on Google for such a keyword will be incredibly difficult. For starters it’s an incredibly competitive topic and there are already thousands of companies which are already established in this area. Your domain name, age of domain, size of your website and link profile will all play a part in how you rank your website. New domains won’t rank as highly as more authoritative and older ones. Websites with a solid link profile from other authorities within the same niche will rank better than small new sites with a poor link profile.

Beginners Guide To Search Engine Optimization – How To Develop Your Site

People won’t just come to your site once it is there. They need a reason to come to a website. Websites which are popular are so for a reason. They give value. They have great content. People actively share good content without reward. Google sees whether content is shared on social media. Google uses date like bounce rate to determine how long people stay on your pages. If people click away immediately, after landing on your site,  Google sees this as inappropriate content and ranks it accordingly. You can’t get ranked on Google and stay ranked without offering something of value. Sooner or later Google will see through a thin site and make it down.

Good Content

Create the best content. Quality never goes out of style. Many people tried to ‘trick’ Google into ranking their content. It worked for a while but  success based on this method was and is short lived. To get the attention of people through the free search engines you must provide quality content. You can’t just put your best keywords on your site and expect to rank for them. What if your industry is hugely competitive?

Competing For Keywords In A Competitive Industry

If your industry is competitive, you still may not rank on the first page of Google. Contrary to what so called search engine marketers may tell you when they cold call you, you just won’t be able to rank your website for certain keywords. Your market may be too competitive. There are companies with teams of people working on their websites. They have employees building links and creating content every day. The small business simply can’t compete with this. But there are things you can do. You can work smart!

Choose Your Keywords Carefully And Create A Blog

Ideally every blog you write will gain the attention of the search engines and rank at the top place on Google. In reality this won’t happen. But if you choose your keywords wisely, your articles or blogs will have a greater chance of generating a free and continuous flow of traffic to your website. By using Google’s keyword planner and choosing long tail keywords which haven’t been over subscribed, you have a much better chance of ranking for buyer keywords. Other Tactics for Search Engine Optimization

Creating great content is not enough. You must also share this content via social media. You want people to link to your content organically to prove to Google that it is worth sharing. You can also generate incoming links to your content which is keyword targeted. Use Fiver.com to build keyword focused links back to your content. This helps Google determine how to rank your content.

Deep Linking

Deep linking means using your new and existing content to link back to other content you have created using your specific keywords. An example is this link back to a previous article on free affiliate marketing training for beginners. Deep linking lets Google know what content is about and helps it to decide what to rank it for, if it deems your content worthy. The more people who link back to your content, the more social proof Google has that your content is share worthy. Because you control the content on your site, deep linking allows you to decide which text to use for your keywords.

Share Your Content

Don’t rely on Google to pick up your content for the world to see it. Share it in as many places as possible. Share it on social media. The more people who see your content the better. People who like it will share it and your presence will grow faster.

Encourage Comments

Comments on your blog are social proof to Google that people interact on your site. Getting a discussion going is a great way to get people talking about your blog. Ask for comments and ask your readers to share any further information and insight into the chosen topic.

Don’t Rely On SEO

Search engine optimization is a great method for generating some nice free trickle traffic to your site. However, it is not as powerful as paid for traffic simply because you can’t turn it on instantly. You need to create a lot of content to generate the traffic needed to make sales. This takes time. Although many people focus on only getting free traffic, it is a mistake. Paid traffic can be much more targeted and can be turned on instantly. SEO is one strategy but for long term success and growing profitability online you should have multiple marketing methods and many products for your customers.
